OAC’s Forensic Architecture and Engineering Group (FAE) specializes in the investigation and repair of existing concrete and masonry structures and facades. Our licensed structural engineers, architects, and building enclosure consultants have a combined 75 years of experience with evaluation and remediation of a variety of structures and hands-on knowledge of the full range of building materials comprising existing assemblies.

Investigation

Our group of professionals relies on years of real experience investigating real structures to isolate the root cause of deterioration and / or performance issues and formulate the best value solutions for our owners, attorneys, insurance carriers and contractors. Our ability to build dynamic professional teams focused on careful and thorough approaches to investigating structures is an asset to our clients. We are well versed with both destructive and non-destructive testing procedures and methodologies and can bring our expert knowledge to the table to assist with any project.

Structural Concrete Repair

The structural engineers of OAC’s FAE group have consulted on a variety of concrete repair projects. We have experience with cast-in-place building structures and bridges, precast structural components and post-tensioned slabs, etc. Prior to joining OAC, our engineers gained valuable knowledge practicing at leading Seattle area structural design firms. This coupled with the forensic experience gained at OAC makes for a well-rounded team that understands how building codes dictate design and performance and how structures fail due to corrosion or deterioration, overloading or construction defect.

Structural Masonry Repair

Similarly, our structural engineers have a variety of experience with masonry structures. We have repaired buildings ranging from older unreinforced masonry (URM) load-bearing buildings to newer reinforced structures. We have experience with common code compliance issues for older masonry structures and the options available to the repair design engineer for upgrade.

Façade Repair

Our FAE team has investigated and repaired a number of unique concrete and masonry building façades in the Pacific Northwest. We are experienced with the construction attributes and limitations of terracotta, cast-in-place and precast concrete façade elements and traditional common brick assemblies.
